Yeah, 1.5 to 2 inches is the sweet spot. Any smaller, and they can get bullied in a community tank.

Also, when you move them, acclimate slowly. Discus are sensitive to sudden changes, even if the water params are similar.

True that. I drip acclimate mine for at least an hour. Better safe than sorry.

I've heard some people use a quarantine tank before moving fry to the main tank. Is that necessary?

Not a bad idea, especially if your main tank has other fish. Gives you a chance to make sure the fry are healthy before introducing them to the group.

Just remember to keep the QT tank at the same temp and water params as the fry tank. Sudden changes can stress them out.

And don't forget to feed them well during QT. They're still growing fast at that stage.

Yeah, QT is a good time to fatten them up a bit before they have to compete for food in the main tank.

Also, keep the QT tank bare-bottom. Easier to clean and monitor for any health issues.
