Exploring the world of rainbowfish

Post by eleNt »

I'm really into rainbowfish now. My special interests change a lot due to my level 2 autism. First, it was community tanks, then Lake Inle, and now I'm all about rainbowfish - I'm not sure why I keep switching, though.
I'm diving deep into the world of rainbowfish now. They're really fascinating fish. A lot of them are rare because their habitats are being destroyed. They're popular in community tanks, but I want to create a biotope of the Mamberamo just for them. I'll be keeping dwarf rainbowfish as the main livestock.
I've been researching these fish and the diseases that can affect them, like Fish Tuberculosis. Next step is to contact Vebas to see if they have any clean stock available.

I highly doubt Vebas will have clean stock, given Patrick the owner contracted Fish TB from the shop, and the previous owner Harry also got it there.

To minimize the risk of getting infected fish, I'd suggest getting eggs from a breeder or buying directly from AI or Bay Fish. Pick them up straight from the box before they go into the shop tank - this way, you reduce the chance of them picking up the bacteria. It's not a guarantee, but it lessens the chances. The fewer tanks they go through, the lower the risk of infection. Alternatively, you could just take the risk and buy some, hoping they're clean.
