is my understanding correct?

Post by fruity1 »

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for taking a moment. I just finished converting my 29gl community tank to a Mbuna setup. I've got the LFS labels here, which list the following: Assorted Pseudotropheus, Blue Johanni, and Acei. After doing some more research, I think I've identified them as follows: 1 Metriaclima estherae, 2 Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos ( possibly male and female), and 3 Pseudotropheus acei or possibly Metriaclima sp. See Picclys for the pics, thanks.

Below is pic #3 that I'm still trying to figure out. The lead Mbuna in my profile pic is pretty clear, but this one's got me stumped.

I'm thinking it could be a Blue Johanni, but I'm really not certain about that.

That's what I initially thought too, but the LFS labels and my own research led me to believe they might be different. After some digging on YouTube, I'm pretty confident the pair are actually Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos. The lighter one is female and the darker, bolder one is male. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics in a thread - if anyone can share some tips, I'd appreciate it.
