Creative ways to attach java moss in your aquarium
Creative ways to attach java moss in your aquarium
I received my plants today and I'm excited to set up the java moss on some cholla wood, but I've hit a snag. I don't have any aquarium-safe fishing line or super glue on hand. The java moss is temporarily in the cups it came in, filled halfway with tank water and floating in the tank. I might be able to get some fishing line in a couple of days, but I'd love to hear any ideas you guys have in the meantime.

I'd say you could use cotton thread, like the kind for sewing clothes, or some dental floss - plain, non-flavored, of course. Rubber bands work too, just make sure to wash 'em first to get rid of any powder. String or nylon rope can also do the trick. Anything non-toxic should be fine for tying the java moss onto the cholla wood.

I've been using sewing thread as coltin mentioned, and I gotta say it works pretty well. One trick I found helpful is having someone assist you when tying the knot - sewing thread can be a bit finicky to work with, so an extra set of hands is useful.

I used to be into black zip ties for a while, they were all the rage. But before that, I'd use twisties from bread bags - just twist two together if one wasn't long enough. By the time they'd rust away, the plants would've taken hold. If the twisties were green or black, I'd use 'em as is. But if they had some other color, I'd just burn it off over the stove and use the bare metal.
