A sunken forest tank without anacharis.

Post by oldraider »

My sunken forest tank had this really nice anacharis arch and forest setup I created using those long anacharis plants. I'd been softening the tank water with RO, and unfortunately, it didn't agree with my anacharis - it started melting. At its peak, it was over 3 feet long. What little was left, I've now removed. I've added more ferns to fill in the gaps and replaced the anacharis with some salvinia. Here's a before and after pic. Haven't been able to get more anacharis or salvinia from my LFS lately. I do have some salvinia on back order, hoping it comes in so I can add it to this tank.

Looks nice. I was wondering, is your tank normally this dimly lit or did the flash from your camera make it seem that way?

Anacharis does indeed melt. I've found that out the hard way. You can still get it on Ebay if you're having trouble finding it locally.

I use T-8 plant lights, which aren't as bright, and the flash from my camera might also be a factor. Since I have tetras in the tank, I keep the lights a bit lower to avoid stressing them out.
