Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
I've had my elodea in the new tank for 3 days now and they're still bubbling like crazy. Should I be worried about something?
Re: Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
It's a sign of pearling, which happens when plants are thriving through photosynthesis. The tiny bubbles you see are oxygen being released by the leaves. This is a great indication that your plants are in top condition and growing rapidly.
Re: Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
I completely agree. My elodea do the same thing regularly. It's a good sign, indicating they're thriving.
Re: Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
It's called pearling and occurs when the plants are photosynthesising really well, basically the plants are releasing oxygen bubbles as a byproduct. The little bubbles coming out of the leaves are a good sign, your plants are thriving.
Well...I thought my plants were a goner the other day as they started shredding leaves - probably due to no water change from the Walstad method. So, I quickly set up another tank, this time with high-tech lighting, and now I'm seeing this pearling effect.

It's a positive sign, like others mentioned.
Re: Why is my elodea releasing bubbles?
I was worried my plants were on their way out, shredding leaves everywhere. No water change with the Walstad method probably didn't help.
So I set up a new tank, this time with some serious lighting, and now I'm seeing these bubbles. Guess the brighter light is doing its job.
