different moss types

I've been mulling over adding some moss to my 170L, but I'm stumped on where to put it. I've got a few ideas, but I'm not sure which way to go. Should I plunk it down in the centflake area, so if I get shrimp they can scavenge around in it? Or maybe it'd be better off to the left with the other plants? Or perhaps near the rocks on the right? I'm genuinely lost.

If any of you aquarium gurus happen to stumble upon this thread, I'd love some advice and guidance. I've attached a few photos of the tank (apologies for the blur!) to give you an idea of the potential spots I'm considering.

The left side's a bit barren, to be honest - it's my planted area, but it's looking a bit sparse.

The centflake area's a large, open space where my corys like to chow down.

Then there's the right side, with the rocks and hiding spots where my pleco and vampire shrimp like to hang out.

Any input would be awesome!

Not claiming to be an expert, but I'd probably place it near the rocks.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of moss - it's a nightmare to trim, and you know it's gonna get out of hand. But I guess it's great for shrimp and some fish. I'd still put it on the right, near the rocks, like navix said - seems like a decent spot for it.

Adding some greenery on that side would bring a bit of balance to the overall look, I think.

You just wait till your tank's overrun with plant bits everywhere, clogging up the works and clinging to every surface they can get a hold of... I'm telling you, you might just change your tune about moss, lol.

As for putting it on the right side, I just think that area needs some green to balance it out, but honestly, there are loads of other options you could use to achieve that look.

I agree, that right side could do with some greenery. Moss is a decent choice, but there are plenty of other options that might be less...high maintenance, let's say.

You could try putting some on the driftwood and the rocks. Moss can spread fairly quickly, so I think it'd work well in both spots.

Do you plan on using fertilizers to help it along?

I was curious because if you were planning to, the moss would really thrive. They don't require fertilizers, but they'd certainly benefit from it.

Not exactly a pro, but I'd suggest placing it near the right rocks, maybe tuck it in a bit under the existing plants - the area does seem a bit bare.

A Marimo moss ball, split and spread across the top of that large rock on the far right could be a good fit - it's a compact option that doesn't get too messy, and stays relatively short.
