Frogspawn coral and water flow
Frogspawn coral and water flow
I recently upgraded my tank's flow with a WP 25, which I've got running on S3 at 50% max flow, paired with W1 and a moderate frequency. Initially, all the tank inhabitants seemed put off, but they've since adjusted and the fish are swimming more actively now... except for my Frogspawn. It used to open up huge with just the nearby Korelia's flow, but now it only reaches about half that size, despite still being fully open. I'm wondering, will it just take some more time to get used to the new wave motion, or is it simply not a fan?
Re: Frogspawn coral and water flow
I think it might just take some time for it to open up fully, but Frogspawn corals aren't exactly known for loving strong currents. The tissue on these corals is super delicate, and chaotic flow can cause some serious damage - it could rip the tissue or rub it against the skeleton, which isn't great. Just something to keep in mind, good luck with it.
Re: Frogspawn coral and water flow
I'm with you. Polyps should have a gentle, rippling motion - not being constantly pushed in one direction.
Re: Frogspawn coral and water flow
I've got a bit of an update, since I hate it when threads just kind of... trail off.
The three heads have opened up quite a bit more - not quite as wide as they were before the flow addition, but they seem to just be taking their sweet time getting there. I've got it set on wave maker, so it's not just pushing them to one side, they're getting that back-and-forth motion. I might move the power head up a little to give them some more space if I need to.

Good to hear the update, hate it when threads just trail off. Alternating flow from a wave maker or gyre pumps is perfect for corals like yours with longer polyps.
