Where to buy plant packs in the uk

Post by _Vodnik »

Hi,

I'm setting up a 25L planted tank and I'm struggling to find the right plant packs. I vaguely recall some UK websites offering bundles tailored to tank size, plant type and difficulty level, but that was about 10 years ago.

Does anyone know of any sites that still do this? I've had a look but can't seem to find what I'm after.

Thanks

A retired moderator, I appreciate your dedication to the community.

Regarding plant packs, I've come across something similar in the US, available on Etsy. Although, I'm not aware of any UK-based alternatives that offer this specific service.

I think I've found something that might be what you're after. Aquaessentials.co.uk seems to offer a range of plant packs for different aquarium sizes and types. They claim to ship plants throughout the UK quickly, with most orders dispatched the same working day, and they also offer expert help if you need it.

That's more like it. Aquaessentials seems to be the kind of place I was looking for, offering a variety of plant packs suitable for different tank sizes and types. Their delivery is also quite fast, with most orders being dispatched on the same day, which is great. Plus, they have expert help available if needed. Although, if I were to purchase one of their packs, I'd have to be careful not to overdo it, or I'd end up with no space left for my fish.

I've had great experiences with Pro-shrimp, I've ordered plants from them several times and they've always been fantastic. While they do occasionally offer plant packs, these tend to sell out quickly, so I'd suggest checking out their clearance and potted plant sections instead. Not only are they cheaper, but you'll also get larger plants in pots. If you click on a specific plant, you'll get more information about its care requirements, including whether it's easy, medium, or hard to care for. If you're new to planted tanks, I'd recommend sticking to easy plants - the hard ones need a lot of extra care, including fertilisers, CO2, and expensive lighting.

I think this approach is better than buying a pack, especially for a small tank like yours. You might end up with a huge plant that's not suitable for your tank, or a few wilted stems from each plant. Some of the plant bundles out there can be cheap, but they're not always the best quality. I'd advise avoiding those.

If you want to learn more about a specific plant, I'd recommend checking out the Tropica website. They're one of the biggest aquarium plant suppliers in Europe, and they have a wealth of information about each plant's needs, including how to plant it, how large it gets, and where it's best placed in the tank. They also have an 'inspiration' section with some amazing aquascapes that can be really helpful and inspiring. Plus, they sometimes post videos on YouTube about specific plants, including how to plant them and time-lapse footage of them growing over time.

I've found another plant that's perfect for a small tank - it's stunning as a mid-foreground plant and super easy to work with. The way it grows, you can just gently push it into the substrate to get the shape you want. I actually bought some after watching this video and I'm so glad I did, it's been a great addition to my tank.

Horizon Aquatics is another great option for plants, worth checking out. Although I'm sure you'd love visiting their shop, it's a bit of a trek from Surrey, being based in County Durham.
