Clear tissue growth on chalice corals

Post by tuner8 »

hey guys, noticed some clear spots on my chalice frags lately. they're on the sand beds with LEDs, but intensity's only at 35% so i'm not sure if it's a bleaching issue.

only change i made recently was taking them off the frag plugs and gluing them to rocks for a more natural look - maybe that stressed them out?

moved them to the shade for now to see if it's related to the lights. any ideas what could be causing this?

I'm wondering if they might've gotten stung by something in the tank.

I've had instances where my chalices developed a bubble of tissue, usually over a damaged area of the skeleton, likely from accidental bumps or bangs while working in the tank. It's possible you might have damaged the skeleton slightly when removing and gluing the chalices - they can be quite fragile.

reef bass, I'm pretty sure they weren't stung - I don't have any tankmates that would cause that kind of issue.

rustyfox9, I'm seeing this on multiple chalices, about three of them, so I'm leaning towards thinking it's a broader problem rather than just a local damage thing.
