Eheim Jager heater issues?

Post by duskfox »

Anyone else having problems with their Eheim Jager heater? Mine keeps turning off randomly, even though the temp is set right. Tank's at 78F, but it'll just cut out for no reason. Using it in a 40-gallon with sand substrate and a Fluval 307.

Mine's been sketchy too. Sometimes it works fine, other times it's like nah, not today. Got it in a 20-gallon with some Guppies and a sponge filter. Dunno if it's the heater or my power strip acting up.

Had a similar vibe with mine last winter. Turned out the thermostat was wonky. Eheim replaced it under warranty, no hassle. You guys check if yours are still covered?

Eheim Jagers are generally reliable, but thermostat failures aren't unheard of. First, verify the heater's fully submerged and the dial isn't obstructed. Second, test it in a bucket with a separate thermometer to confirm inconsistency. If it's faulty, contact Eheim—their customer service is decent.

Thanks, gonna try the bucket test tonight. It's definitely submerged, but the dial might be gunked up. Appreciate the tip.

Mine's only a few months old, so warranty should cover it. Gonna dig up the receipt. Shadowg, how long did the replacement take?

Took about two weeks total. They sent a new one after I mailed the old one back. Pack it well, their return instructions are picky.

If the bucket test shows fluctuations, note the exact behavior—Eheim might ask for details. Also, ensure your tank's flow isn't creating cold spots near the heater. A powerhead can help distribute heat evenly.

Good call on the flow. My sponge filter's output might be too weak. Gonna toss in a small wave maker and see if that stabilizes things.

Let us know if the wave maker helps. Might steal that idea if my new heater acts up again.
