A snowflake eel's swimming abilities

Post by north9 »

Considering adding a needle fish to my tank, I was wondering if it could coexist with my snowflake eel and chocolate chip starfish. Looking for a top swimmer that won't become an eel snack when it grows. My snowflake is still pretty small, under a foot long. The starfish is small too.

If we're talking about an echidna nebulosa, Snowflakes tend to focus on crustaceans rather than fish. Keeping your eel well-fed with medium to larger fish should minimize potential issues. They'll likely go for the ornamental shrimp and snails, which is what those teeth are designed for.

"Needle Fish" - what's the genus, by the way. I'm with flame9x on this one, Snowflakes aren't typically fish-eaters. Mostly, they go for crabs and shrimp, and I think they do eat some crustaceans, but I'm not aware of them eating snails.

My mistake, I must've gotten it mixed up. I did some research on them a while back and I guess I just recalled what I typed. I figured crustaceans included snails, but I guess not.

The crustacean issue is a bit of a problem for me, so I'm not getting a needle fish... yet.

Morays can be quite entertaining to watch, I've found.
