Mounting frags on plugs

Post by ladybass »

What's the best way to mount frags on plugs without stressing them out too much? I've got some Zoanthids and a couple Acros that keep slipping off. Using super glue gel but it's not sticking great.

Super glue gel works best when the plug and frag are dry. Blot the frag base with a paper towel, apply a thin layer of glue to the plug, then press firmly for 10 seconds. If it's still not sticking, try scoring the plug surface lightly with a razor for better adhesion.

Yo, ditch the glue if it's sketchy. Use epoxy putty instead. Knead it, slap it on the plug, press the frag in, and shape it around the base. Holds way better, especially for Acros. Just don't mess with the frag too much after.

I agree with fluteca! Super glue gel has worked for me too, but I always make sure the plug is bone dry. Maybe try a different brand? I've had better luck with the Gorilla Glue gel.

Epoxy putty's solid, but if you're gonna stick with glue, try cyanoacrylate. It's stronger than regular super glue. Also, chill the frag for a minute in tank water before mounting—reduces slime and helps it stick.

Epoxy's messy though. Glue's cleaner if you can get it to work. Maybe your tank's too humid?

I've had luck with both methods. Glue for small frags, epoxy for bigger ones. Just don't rush it—let the glue set for a minute before putting it back in the tank.

How long should I wait after mounting before putting the frag back in the tank? I'm worried about the glue dissolving too fast.

Wait at least 30 seconds for the glue to fully cure. If you're using epoxy, give it 2-3 minutes to harden slightly before submerging.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! Gonna try the epoxy putty and see if it holds better. Appreciate the help.
