My black tang

Post by talonix »

Hi Everyone

I've been browsing the internet for a new tang and I came across a gem tang, but the price put me off at first. I'll probably get one around summer time. Then I stumbled upon a black tang and I'm having trouble finding enough info about them. Are they prone to white spot? Are they considered easy to keep? I've seen the price and I think it's worth it, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on how they'd get on.

You've got a thing for the pricey ones, don't you? All tangs are pretty susceptible to White Spot, but I'm not too sure about the black ones specifically. Guess it's worth a shot if you're willing to take the risk, though.

hi ben i think we all do, expensive taste and all. well for now i'll get the black tang first, lost my achilles tang to white spot after just a week, that's just fluxx. i want something black in the tank, it just makes it look more complete. i think the black tang is easier to keep than the achilles tang, thanks scott

Achilles tangs, they're a bit of a struggle, their settlement time is pretty lengthy.

they're just as easy to keep as a yellow tang, but you gotta be careful, they're prone to black spot and it's really hard to notice, the only way you can tell is they'll lose colour, isn't that harmful tho

Blimey, you lost an Achilles and now you're eyeing a black tang, mate. You're either brave or crazy, I'm not sure which. Just send your cash my way, haha, you seem to be swimming in it.

Achilles tangs here are going for around 800 bucks for a medium-sized one, and good luck finding a seller in Austflakeia - they're as rare as unicorns now. The only place you'll spot them is in display tanks at the shops, thanks to those blasted collecting restrictions. Fingers crossed they'll replenish their numbers soon.

Black tang, likely Zebrasoma rostratum. Similar to others in the genus, generally hardy, not especially prone to ich. No personal experience with them, though.

Haven't come across one myself, seems they're not that common. Not like the midnight angel, completely different, and I mean, they're jet black, a lot less 'showy' if you know what I mean.
