Can anyone help with cichlid identification

Need help figuring out what's going on with this guy. Was sold to me as an acei color varkento4t, but I'm not buying it - his eyes seem way bigger than my other aceis and the color's definitely off. Did some digging through different types of cichlids and I'm pretty sure he's actually a red fin borleyi, aka copadichromis borleyi. Assuming female due to the color, but would love some confirmation.

I think you're right on the money, mindflex. The size could be a giveaway - if it's large enough, it's probably a male. They all start out with that coloring anyway.
