Euphyllia glabrescens feeding

Post by luminar8 »

My Euphyllia glabrescens hasn't been extending its tentacles much lately. I've been feeding it Reef Roids twice a week, but it doesn't seem interested. Tank params are stable, 78F, 1.025 salinity, 8.2 pH. Anyone else had this issue?

Yep, I've seen this before. Reef Roids are great, but sometimes they need variety. Try mixing in some mysis shrimp or even small pieces of krill. My Euphyllia goes nuts for it. Also, check your flow, too much can stress them out.

How's your lighting? I've noticed mine retracts if the light's too intense. I run mine at 60% on my AI Prime, 12 hours a day. Also, what's your nitrate level? Even if it's stable, low nitrates can make them sluggish.

I second the flow advice. Mine perked up when I dialed back the MP10 from 70% to 50%. Also, how old are your bulbs? Worn-out T5s can mess with their vibe.

Mine's the same way, dude. Sketchy little thing. I switched to frozen cyclops and it's been way happier. Also, try feeding at night when the tentacles are out. Works like a charm.

What's your magnesium level? Low mag can make them retract. I keep mine at 1350 ppm. Also, how often are you doing water changes? Too frequent can stress them out. I do 10% biweekly.

I've had this happen too. Maybe try reducing the feeding frequency? Mine got overwhelmed with twice a week. Once a week seems to work better for me.

Mine's chill with Reef Roids, but I mix in some amino acids. Brightwell's Coral Amino is solid. Also, what's your alk at? Swings can freak them out.

Sounds like your coral's just being picky. Mine's the same way. Try turning off the pumps when you feed. Less competition from the fish, more food for the coral. Simple fix.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try the mysis shrimp and dial back the flow. Appreciate the help!
