how to Keep plants with corys

Post by admiral »

I've got a 20 gallon tank with Corydoras and some Anubias, but the plants aren't thriving. The substrate is sand, and I'm using a basic LED light. Any tips on keeping plants healthy with Corys around?

Corys can be a bit messy, but they usually don't bother plants too much. What's your water change routine like? Maybe the plants need more nutrients if you're not dosing anything.

Yo, sand can be tricky for plants. You gotta root tab that stuff, my dude. Corys dig around but won't uproot Anubias if it's tied to driftwood. Try some root tabs and see if that helps.

Anubias are slow growers, so don't expect quick results. Are you using any liquid fertilizers? I've had success with Seachem Flourish in my Cory tank.

How often are you feeding the Corys? Overfeeding can lead to excess waste, which might affect plant health. Also, check your lighting duration, 6-8 hours should be enough for Anubias.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try root tabs and adjust the lighting. I've been doing weekly water changes, about 25%, but haven't been dosing any fertilizers.

Yeah, root tabs are a game-changer. I use them in my sand substrate too, and my plants are doing way better.

I've got Corys and plants in my tank, and it's all good. Just make sure the plants are anchored well. Maybe try some Java Fern too, it's pretty chill with Corys.

My Corys never bothered my plants. Maybe it's the light or nutrients like others said. What's your tank temp? Anubias like it warm but not too hot.

That's a solid start. Keep an eye on the plants for a few weeks after adding root tabs. They should perk up.
