acclimating LPS corals

Post by floralpup »

Just got a new Duncan and some Acans, but they're not opening up like my others did. My tank's a 40 breeder, running two AI Primes, salinity at 1.025, temp 78. Any tips to help them settle in faster?

How long have they been in the tank? Sometimes LPS take a few days to adjust, especially if they were shipped. I'd check your flow too, Duncans like moderate movement, not too direct.

yo, my acans were sketchy at first too. i drip acclimated for like 90 mins, kept the lights low for a couple days. they perked up after that. maybe cut the blues for a bit?

Agree on the lighting. I've had luck with a 3-day ramp-up from 10% to full intensity. Also, what's your alkalinity sitting at? Acans can be fussy if it's swinging.

Mine didn't open for a week. Then one day they just did. Maybe give it time?

Duncans can be drama queens. Mine sulked for days after a water change. If your params are stable, they'll come around.

Thanks, all! I'll dial back the lights and check my alk. It's usually around 8.5 dKH, but I'll test again tonight.

8.5's solid. If they're still closed after a few days, try target feeding with some mysis. Sometimes they just need a snack to feel at home.

for real, food fixes everything. my acans go nuts for reef roids. just don't overdo it or you'll mess with your nutrients.

Also, what's your nitrate and phosphate looking like? LPS can be weird if they're too low. Mine like nitrates around 5-10 ppm.
