Can I keep a Kole Tang in a 75

Post by flux8 »

I've got a 75 gallon tank and I'm thinking about adding a Kole Tang. I've heard they need space, but I'm not sure if 75 is enough. Anyone have experience with these guys in a similar setup?

Kole Tangs are active swimmers, so a 75 might be pushing it. They're not as big as some other tangs, but they still need room to roam. What's your tank's dimensions? That'll give a better idea.

I've kept a Kole Tang in a 75 for about a year now. It's doing fine, but I've got a lot of open swimming space. If your tank's crowded with rockwork, it might not work out.

What other fish are in there? Tangs can get territorial, especially if they're cramped. My Kole Tang was chill until I added a clownfish, then it got kinda aggressive.

Thanks for the input, everyone. My tank's 48 inches long, 18 wide, and 21 tall. It's got some rockwork but plenty of open space. Current stock is two clownfish and a firefish.

With that setup, you might be okay. Just watch for aggression, especially during feeding. Kole Tangs can be food hogs.

I'd say go for it, but keep an eye on water quality. Tangs are messy eaters, and a 75 can get dirty fast if you're not on top of maintenance.

Make sure you've got good filtration. I run a canister filter and a protein skimmer in my 75, and it handles the bioload just fine.

I'd recommend adding the Kole Tang last if possible. They can get territorial, so introducing them after other fish might help reduce aggression.
