55-gallon tank stocking advice

Post by _SlowDoom »

Setting up a 55-gallon tank and need some stocking ideas. I'm thinking a mix of community fish but wanna avoid overdoing it. What's your go-to combo for a tank this size? Got a Fluval 307 filter and sand substrate, if that helps.

A 55-gallon gives you plenty of options. I'd start with a school of 10-12 Tetras, like Cardinals or Rummynose. They're lively and add color. Pair them with a centerpiece fish like a pair of German Blue Rams or a single Angelfish. Just watch the Rams if you've got softer water, they prefer it acidic.

Ooh, I love Cardinals! They're so pretty. Maybe add some Corydoras too? They're cute and help keep the bottom clean. I have six in my tank and they're always busy.

I agree with this. Rams are great but can be picky. Make sure your tank is cycled and stable before adding them.

If you're into a chill vibe, consider a group of Harlequin Rasboras. They're hardy and get along with most community fish. Throw in some Cherry Shrimp if you're feeling adventurous, just know the Angelfish might snack on 'em.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll probably go with the Cardinals and Rams combo. Gonna let the tank cycle for another week before adding anything.

Yo, don't forget about the Corys. They're legit the best cleanup crew. Get like six of 'em and they'll keep your sand spotless.

True, but make sure they're the same species. Mixing types can stress them out. I'd go with Sterbai or Pandas for a 55-gallon.

I think the Cardinals and Rams will look amazing together. Post pics when you've got them in the tank!
