Moving a canister filter to a new tank: algae concerns

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of setting up a new tank and I'm planning to transfer a canister filter - it's a Biomaster 350 - from my existing tank. The thing is, the old tank has a lot of hairy black and green algae covering the decor, so I'm a bit concerned about algae in the new tank. I'll definitely be cleaning the inflow and outflow pipes, but I'm wondering if the filter media could cause an algae outbreak in the new setup.
