white poops again
white poops again
I've noticed a long, whitish string of poop - could this be a sign of worms?
Re: white poops again
The long whitish string of poop could be due to several factors, including diet, worms, or an internal infection.
To narrow down the possibilities, I'd like to ask a few questions. Is the fish eating normally? If it is, then an internal bacterial or protozoan infection is less likely, and it could be either worms or a diet-related issue.
Have there been any changes to the fish's diet in the past week? A sudden change can cause stomach and intestinal upset, leading to unusual coloured poop for a short period.
Additionally, what colour is the fish food? The colour of the food can influence the colour of the poop. For instance, white or light-coloured food can result in light-coloured poop. Although rare in fish, liver problems can also cause this. On the other hand, dark-coloured food typically produces darker poop, such as green food resulting in green poop or brown food resulting in brown or black poop.
It's also possible that the long poop is simply a result of the fish being well-fed and needing to expel a large amount of waste.

Fish is eating normally. Diet's been the same. I mix it up throughout the week - either those colored tetra flakes, Hikari micro pellets or frozen brine shrimp.coltin wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 5:24 am The long whitish string of poop could be due to several factors, including diet, worms, or an internal infection.

Did you treat for worms recently? If so, what medication did you use? If not, I'd recommend trying a deworming treatment. Section 3 of this link has some helpful info on deworming fish: www.fishforums.net. It discusses possible reasons for stringy white poop, including internal bacterial infections, but since your fish is eating normally, I think deworming might be a good place to start.
Re: white poops again
You dewormed them 10 days ago with praziquantel and metronidazole. What was the dosage and treatment duration?
Section 3 of the following link has info on deworming fish, but considering you've already done it, let's see if we can find another reason for the stringy white poop.
Fish do a stringy white poop for several reasons. 1) Internal Bacterial Infections causes the fish to stop eating, swell up like a balloon, breath heavily at the surface or near a filter outlet, do stringy white poop, and die within 24-48 hours of showing these symptoms. This cannot normally be treated with deworming meds.

Yes, Flubendazole will work for all types of worms in fish, including flat and round worms. I'm pretty sure it can also affect shrimp and snails, but you'll need to double-check that.
