I'm loving the way he's showing off, that shivering thing is so cool, and his coloring is really coming out now. I'll definitely have to look into setting up a species-only tank for him later on, but for now I just want to get this tank right, no more ick and all my fish happy and healthy. What's your take on stocking a 125, how many full-grown Africans do you think I could keep without stressing them out?terrac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 6:33 pm To be honest, I'm a bit concerned about the compatibility of your stock. Before we dive into that, I have to ask, what's the tank size you're working with? Also, I noticed you didn't mention the auratus, but since you have other peacocks and cichlids, I have to warn you that the auratus is known to be very aggressive, so if you do plan on introducing one, you'll need to be careful.

I'm thinking around 15-20, but that's just a rough estimate. I've got a friend with a 125 and he's got around that many, seems to be doing okay.

I'm thinking of adding a few more, but I'm not sure yet. I'll probably get some more of the same kinds I already have, but you never know who's gonna make it to full grown, right? I've heard that juvies are kinda hit or miss. For a 125-150, I'm thinking I can fit around 25-30, depending on the size of the fish, since I've got a few that are gonna get pretty large.terrac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 6:33 pm To be honest, I'm a bit concerned about the compatibility of your stock. I've decided not to add any more fish to my tank, mainly because I have some spawning going on. I've got a couple of yellow labs holding, a blue zebra holding, and I've already managed to raise a surviving baby that's about an inch long now, which is pretty exciting.

I was just about to ask that. So, how do you sex them? Is there something I can look for without having to take them out and examine them? I got rid of the aratus and the demasoni, took them to the LFS, and I ended up getting two more yellows and two more OB's.terrac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 6:33 pm To be honest, I'm a bit concerned about the compatibility of your stock.
